Transporters from Serbia, Northern Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro have blocked border points for circulation of goods towards the European Union's Schengen area, in response to the new EU system for control of inflows.

As the blockade was warned it will last seven days, the Kosovo Economic Oda has reacted to the consequences the country is expected to feel from these protests.

“OEK expresses its concern over the protests of transport companies in the countries of the region, which are already causing serious consequences for the normal functioning of Kosovo businesses and the flow of international trade”, said in an OEK response.

Kosovo's Economic Oda says that <x0 developments have directly impacted export and import access to goods directly and from European Union countries, creating significant delays, additional costs for companies, and real risks for cutting off supply chain”.

“Chairman of the Kosovo Chamber of Economics Lulzim Rafuna, simultaneously chairman of the WB6 CIF Board, has addressed this problem consistently in communications with the institutions of the European Union, seeking a sustainable and systemic solution, in the interest of free trade functioning and the maintenance of supply chains between the European Union and the Western Balkan countries”, the report says.

Kosovo's Economic Oda calls on the European Union for urgent institutional interventions that would enable normal functioning of international road transport until the creation of a permanent solution”.

Such an approach is in the common interest of European Union and Western Balkans economies and represents a precondition for economic stability, trade integration and sustainable regional development. Kosovo's Economic Oda remains committed to protecting the interests of the business community and contributing to institutional dialogue with European partners, in the function of ensuring free, secure and functional trade”, it says in response.
