Russia has carried out intimidation and rocket attacks on Ukraine overnight, killing one person and injuring 23 others, despite participation in talks with the US aimed at ending the war.
Ukrainian capital mayor Kiev Vitaly Klyscho said that one person had died and four were injured after a massive attack. He added that the capital's critical infrastructure was damaged, which had left 6,000 buildings without heating.
There were also attacks on Kharkiv. Mayor Ihor Terekhov said 19 people were injured during the early morning attacks Saturday.
In a statement following the attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Russian's main objective was energy infrastructure.
The attacks took place at the time when delegations from Russia, Ukraine and the US met in Abu Dhabi in the first tripartite talks since the Kremlin began its neighbour's full-scale invasion in 2022.
A source has told the BBC that some progress has been made, but the main issue of territory remains unresolved. Talks are expected to continue today.
Russia has occupied approximately 20% of Ukraine, including parts of the eastern region of Donbas. The Kremlin wants Ukraine to hand over large areas of territory. Ukraine has ruled out this possibility.
