SVP (The Swiss People's Party) at its assembly of delegates, held today, has called for an educational reform that would focus on basic skills. Once this party blames immigration for the poor academic performance of Swiss schools, albinfo.ch reports, broadcasts Periscope.

At this meeting, SVP representatives have called for a restriction on the number of children who speak foreign languages for class, mandatory linguistic tests before school starts, and sanctions for lack of parental co-operation.

Furthermore, this party is supporting a nationwide ban on mobile phones in schools, the restoration of special education classes and the strengthening of practical subjects.

The children should finally learn the basics again: reading, writing and arithmetics”, SVP deputy from Zurich, Benjamin Fischer, has indicated. He argued that schools are increasingly unable to fulfill this task. SVP identifies immigration as the main reason.

Fischer further stated that when 20 percent of children in one class have a non - Swiss native language, teaching becomes difficult, and when this rate reaches 30 percent, almost impossible. Hence, in its proposed solutions, SVP is calling for a restriction on the number of students with foreign languages for each class.

Over a certain percentage of children of foreign background, the quality of education declines, according to SVP deputy. Therefore, this party suggests a 30 per cent threshold, citing studies. That is why there is the call cited for a limit to the number of foreign - language children in the classroom. Depending on neighborhood and residential areas, this could lead to considerable logistical challenges.

Fischer says municipalities and cantons will have to decide how such boundaries will be implemented. /Periscope/
