Greece prepares for catastrophic weather, schools closed in Athens

Greece is involved in a frightening wave of bad weather, with strong temperatures, rainfall and snow, which have raised red alarms in the country.

By the decision of Regional Governor Nikos Hardalias and after a recommendation by members of the Committee for Risk Rating, Civil Protection and Emergency Services, all primary and private secondary schools, as well as night schools throughout Atika, will remain closed tomorrow, on January 21st, for preliminary reasons.

This decision was aimed at protecting students and teaching staffs from dangers that could arise from travel to schools and schools, as heavy heavy rainfall is expected from midday onward.

According to the new emergency bulletin of the National Meteorological Service, the main characteristics of bad weather are:

Heavy rains and storms from early Wednesday morning to many areas of the central and southern country and the afternoon of the same day in the Aegean.

Heavy snowfalls locally on Wednesday in mountainous-half-mile areas of continental Greece and in areas of Thessalia and Macedonia at low altitude and

Strong winds locally and a significant drop in temperature.

The National Co-ordination Centre for Crisis Operations and Management (ESKEDIK) announced that it is already in communication with Local First and Second St.

The most endangered regions are:

- Actical.

- Peloponnese

- Central Greece

- Thessaly
