Experts say energy crisis is hitting businesses

The situation with electricity supplies in the country is continuing to cause serious concern to businesses and the economy in general, while experts estimate that unexpected cuts and high energy prices are causing serious losses, especially for the production sector, the Online Economy reports. It is also estimated that the risk of new electricity price growth remains high due to heavy import and increased demand.

Financial experts, the Ajvaz Movement, told Online Economy that businesses are facing serious consequences due to lack of energy stability and high supply costs.

Ajvazi stresses that the situation has deteriorated even more as businesses are facing energy shortages simultaneously and very high prices, making normal work progress difficult.

According to him, the risk of new electricity price growth remains high, due to heavy import and increased demand, while investments in new production capacities and renewable resources are lacking.

“The situation is not good, we're hoping it'll work out. It's not going to work out, because we have nothing yet. We have neither the production plan nor the annual energy balance plan for 2026, we are at the end of January. Last year the 2025 plan was approved in November 2025, meaning without a year's pass. We don't have it yet. What we're seeing and what we know is that we're going to have another power price increase maybe early in April, because import is extremely high. The demand on the other side is enormous, and the only form will be the increase of the” price, he underlined.

On the other hand, Energy Professor Vezir Rexhepi explains that during the winter demand for electricity increases significantly, while Kosovo's electromagnetic system faces serious problems in production, transmission and sustainable supply.

The demand during winter is essentially too high for electricity to exceed nearly twice the demand during the summer period even at this time, unfortunately, in our country there are problems that transmit production and sometimes transmit the sustainable transmission and power supply of consumers, and in this case, we might say that there have been various problems related to generation.
