Energy reductions return, LDK's Azem accused of malmanagement and seizure of sector

Returning electricity reductions is clear evidence of the scandalous management of the energy sector in Kosovo, the LDK's Visar Azemi media conference has declared today. According to him, the current government has not invested a cent in increased energy capacities, while spending over 1 billion euros on electricity imports.

Azzam stressed that this situation has only two possible explanations: either it's incapacitated and mismanagement, or energy-captured, and eat organized by what he called “energy mafia”, where he mentioned concrete names.

To come to this absurd situation, there are only two possible explanations: either we are dealing with incapacitatement and full mismanagement in government, or we are dealing with the seizure of the energy sector and the thieves organised by the energy mafia, including Martin Berisha and Vuk Hamovqi. Spending 1 billion euros on citizens' money for energy imports, and not investing any euros in new production capacities that would serve next generations, is harmful and irresponsible to Kosovo's future. Today, these people are leaving Kosovo in the dark. With a simple report on social networks, citizens are told that reductions are returning as if it were a trivial issue, rather than a problem directly affecting the country's life, health and economy”, he said, Online Economy broadcasts Periscope.

He also criticised the way institutions are communicating the return of reductions, calling it unacceptable for such a serious issue to be addressed with simple social media reports, even though it directly affects life, health and the economy of citizens.

The conference also criticised party and family appointments to energy institutions. Azem cited as an example the appointment of Vetevendosje MP Ejup Macedonci, head of the COST, describing this as evidence of the full seizure of the energy sector.

The “those who once claimed that family members have “for weddings”, today almost every appointment they make, are turning institutions into shelters for party and family appointments. The appointment of Vetvendosje MP Ejup Macdonci's grandson for director in COSTT speaks best of the capture of energy institutions in the country. This is the last link in the energy sector that has already completely fallen into power. For the record, this one who has today been appointed director of COSTT is a co-owner of a private energy company. What happens to this... while brothers, sisters and relatives are named to leadership positions, children in Kosovo schools remain without power and learning, health institutions, hospitals and health homes are faced with reductions, and the state administration becomes dysfunctional. Some of these institutions also lack heat, creating difficult conditions for employees and citizens, and violating the normal delivery of public services”, he said.

Meanwhile, according to Azem, the consequences of this mismanagement are suffering for citizens.

For this situation, the Democratic League of Kosovo requires justice institutions to launch immediate investigations into mismanagement of the energy sector. Also, with the Kosovo Assembly Constitution, The LDK will seek parliamentary investigation, independent and thorough auditing of energy transactions, as well as departisanisation of energy institutions.

In the end, Azem stressed that Kosovo must immediately start investments in new production capacities not to be held hostage by expensive imports and repeated crises, recalling that building the gas plant remains concrete solutions to the country's energy and national security. /Periscope
