Just this week, it will be a month from early elections for the Kosovo Assembly and since then, Kosovo has had constant counting and recounting.
Initially, the voting-counting process of MPs was held at 38 Municipal Counting Centres and shortly after them, at the Counting and Results Centre was counted out from conditional voting and persons with special needs, as well as votes from votes outside Kosovo on diplomatic representation and via mail.
Just as everything seemed to be going well and the CEC was expected to announce the final outcome in a record time and prior to initial planning, on January 13th, this institution made a decision to recount 914 deployments, while on January 19th, it was also expected to recount another 1,643 deployments, leading to the overall recount of all seats.
The CEC's decisions came after allegations of manipulation that some Municipal Counting Centres have not accurately tallied the votes of candidates for MPs.
828 locations are expected to be recounted
Based on data from the CEC platform for results, by the end of Sunday (January 25th 2026), 67.62% or 1,729 seats have been recounted from 2,557. Only 828 ballot boxes or polling boxes have remained to be recounted over the following week.
CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi has shown over the weekend that “from January 13th, at the Counting and Results Centre, is continuing the process of recounting the deployments for which the CEC has decided. This process is continuing according to schedules and I can say that the CEC is trying at best to complete the recount of all locations in the next week, 2,557 soos”.
According to him, “following the CEC recount will announce the election's final result. As envisioned in the Law for General Elections, political subjects and candidates will be able to submit their complaints to PZAP and, eventually, the process can continue until the Supreme Court. Of course, the recount process removes dilemmas as far as results are concerned and this may reduce the need for complaints, but the CEC should wait for their presentation and review before proceeding with the certificate of election outcome and also with the conclusion of the election process”.
