All evidence so far shows that Portuguese football player Diogo Jota was at the wheel during the tragic accident on a highway to Spain and, according to police, he was allegedly driving swiftly over the permitted border, the BBC writes.
Liverpool's 28-year-old player died along with his brother, Andre Silva, 25, after the accident in the Zamora province, northwest Spain, in the early hours of last Thursday. According to police, one of the two back tires of the sports car exploded during a parade. This caused the car to slide, cut a side guard, roll, and immediately catch fire.
Spanish police, “Civil Guardia” disclosed that the vehicle had been on a parading maneuver on the highway when it took off the road and blew up in flames.
“Everything shows that there has been possible exceed the possible speed of allowed”, the local street and Zambia police said of preliminary investigations.
Authorities stressed that, based on the traces of Lamborghini's tire, all evidence collected so far show that Jotham was the driver of the vehicle at the moment of the accident.
An expert report is being prepared for the tribunal, but investigations have become more complicated because of the intensity of the fire that almost completely destroyed the car.
The accident occurred just 11 days after Jotham was married to Rute Cardoso, Portugal. The couple had three children, and they had long relations together.
The brothers were on their way to the Spanish port of Santander, where Jotham would travel to Liverpool to join the team in pre-sezonal exercises.
