Here's the Dutch coach's full message:
What can I say? What can one say at such a time when shock and pain are so intense? I wish I had words, but I know I don't have them.
All I have is feelings that I know a lot of people will be separated for one person and a player we loved very much and a family we care about so much.
My first thoughts are not those of a soccer coach. They are for a father, a son, a brother, and an uncle who belong to the family of Diogos and Andre Silva, who have experienced such an unimaginable loss.
My message to them is very clear. You will never walk alone. Players, staff, Liverpool Football Club supporters are all with you and what I've seen today, the same thing can be said of the widest football family.
This is not just an answer to tragedy. It is also a response to the kindness of the people involved and the respect so many people have for boys as individuals and the family as a whole.
For us as a club, the feeling of shock is absolute. Diogo was not just our player. He was a lover to all of us. He was a teammate, a colleague, an associate, and in all those roles he was very special.
I can say a lot about what he brought to our team, but the truth is, all those who saw Diogon play and see. Hard work, desire, commitment, excellent quality, goals. The essence of what should be a Liverpool player.
There were also parts that not everyone could see. The person who never sought popularity but found it anyway. Not a friend to two people, a friend to everyone. Someone who made others feel good about themselves only by being with them. A person who cared deeply for his family.
The last time we spoke, I commended Diogon for winning the League of Nations and wished him good luck for his future marriage. In many ways it was a dream summer for Diogon and his family, which makes it even sader than that.
When I first came to the club, one of the first songs I heard was what our fans sing about Diogon. I had never worked with him before, but I knew immediately if Liverpool's fans, who have seen so many great players over the years, had such a unique song for Diogon, he must have special qualities.
Having lost those qualities under such dire circumstances is something we've already disagreed with. For that reason, we need everyone in the club to stay together and be there for each other. We owe this to Diogos, Andre Silva, their extended family and ourselves.
My condolences go to Diogos' wife, Rutte, their three beautiful children, and the parents of Diogos and Andre Silva.
When the time comes, we will celebrate Diogo Jotham, remember his goals, and sing his song. For now, we will remember him as a unique human being and mourn his loss. He will never be forgotten.
His name is Diogo. /Periscope/
