La Ligas President announces FIFA war for the Club World

The president of La League, Javier Tabas, has again voiced his open opposition to the World Cup for Club, claiming he will do everything in his power to stop future tours. I will do everything in my power to make sure that [...]
I will do everything in my power to ensure that the World Cup for Club will never be held again”, Tebas said during a press conference held on Tuesday (July 1st).
This is not the first time that the head of La League has expressed itself against this new format. Since FIFA announced the 32 team tour project to be held every four years, Tebas has been one of the most vocal critics.
According to FIFA, the first edition of the new World Cup of Clubs will be organised in 2029, and over $3 billion have been cleared for its fulfillment. Each participating club is expected to benefit $16 million, which has attracted the support of many elite clubs in the world.
In the first edition this year, La League is represented by the two main teams of Spain: Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Both teams have agreed to give up summer vacations to be part of the tournament.
Despite FIFA's enthusiasm and support from clubs, Tebas has no intention of withdrawing. It aims to block this initiative through legal means and institutional pressure, which it views as a threat to the calendar and balance of national contests.
It now remains to be seen whether the clash between La League and FIFA will deepen, or whether the parties will find a compromise for the future of international football. /Periscope/
