The reason for this disqualification is said to be the symbolic gesture of the eagle, which has been interpreted as provocative by organisers and part of the public.
Goqi, known in Kosovo for dancing from high and originally from Gjakova, had made the symbol of the two-headed eagle prior to his dance -- a common gesture among Albanian athletes to express national identity.
According to the Montenegrin media report, the move was accompanied by whistles from the public, while the jury later established its disqualification, as organisers have considered this gesture as “violation of the manifestation rules”.
Even Podgorica Sports Secretary Darko Nikchev has confirmed the decision on disqualification, stressing that the <x0 manifesto rules clearly prohibit the appearance of inappropriate political, national or other natural symbols and orders” broadcasts.
Shkelzen Goqi himself, who has called this decision unjust, has spoken of the case.
Shkelzen Goqi for “TV Eye” said that “ai represented Kosovo in Podgorica”, but that he has not been presented as a racer of the Republic of Kosovo but that he has only been told by Gjakova jumper. He said it is the unjust decision that this dissultification was made in Podgorica.
Montenegrin media reported that Evald Krniq, the winner of the race, was the initiator of Goqi's disqualified.
I have immediately intervened in the professional jury, which made the decision to expel him. He also received stops for participating in competitions of this kind in Podgorica”, he has told Montenegrin media. /Periscope/
