Diogo Yota's family has made a brief media appearance ahead of the mortal ceremony of Liverpool's assailant, who was tragicly separated from his life Thursday in a car crash, along with his brother, Andre Silva.
According to preliminary investigations by the Spanish Civil Guardia, their car suffered a rubber explosion during a parade near the town of Zamora, leaving the street and then on fire. Both brothers lost their lives at the scene.
Their funeral was held on Saturday morning in the hometown of Gondomar, Portugal. The ceremony was accompanied by deep emotions and strong public participation.
A Liverpool delegation, led by coach Arne Slot, Captain Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson, was on hand to bid their last farewell to two football players, reports Telegraph, broadcast Periscope.
Among those present were former teammates like Fabinho, Theago and Henderson, representatives of the Portuguese national and coach Roberto Martinez.
Before the service began, Jota's family published a statement expressing the desire for the ceremony to be held privately, despite the public and media interest.
To cope with the great attendance, a special area was created outside the church with speakers to attend the ceremony, as hundreds of citizens continued to express their respect even during Friday at an intensive memorial.
The funeral of Jota and his brother marked a painful moment not only for Portuguese football but for the world of sports. /Periscope/
