Barcelona President Joan Laporta did not give a confirmation when asked if the club would be back in time for their debut in La League at “Camp Nou”. Works on renovation of the stadium are already eight months late, and the minimum is expected to end by ten months late.
The club had warned the return on August 10th, where the match for the Joan Gamper Trophy would take place against the Cosmo team. However, this week it was confirmed that the match will be played at the “stadium, Johan Cruyff”, with a capacity of 60,000 seats, at the club's sports complex. In an interview for Mundo Deportivo, Laporta said only that the return would happen “as soon as possible”.
I don't know when, but as soon as possible. One of the issues was that the volume of the work and the discussions with Baschi led us to a revision of the work plan, which affected the deadlines we had set before, even though we proposed that Camp Nouʹ be opened with sectors. Other clubs have done this with their stadiums. But the municipal decision was very clear: the progress of the works did not allow the first permission to use, which is the missing one. ”
Laporta confirmed that the plan was for the Joan Gamper Trophy match to take place in “Camp Nou”, “if there were no obstacles”. The club was intended to open several stadium sectors, hosting between 27,000 and 32,000 fans. Regarding setting a return date, he said: “If you don't set the date, it doesn't create any tension”, reports Express, broadcast Periscope.
The next big question is whether the stadium will be ready for the weekend of September 14th, when Barcelona will face Valencia. If not, then another problem arises: Montjuic will be busy with a Post Malone concert on September 12th, which may be unable to use the “Estadin Olímic Lewis Companys” stadium. Laporta ruled out the idea of the concert moving:
I think there will always be a solution. We're working to get back to Camp Nou. There are alternatives, but we're not considering them right now. We're only focused on returning to Camp Nou.”
It has been confirmed that Barcelona has demanded that the first match in the Champions League play in transfers this season. For the possibility of the team staying longer in Montjuice this season, Laporta said it would have financial impact:
“We are not considering the possibility of nonreversion. All budgets for next season and all our commitments in the financing contract include the return to Spotificy Camp Nou. We should have reviewed everything. We're used to dealing with complicated situations, but we always hope things calm down when the time comes. ”
When the deal was announced with the Turkish construction company Limak, Barcelona stressed the delay clause, envisioning the payment of 1m euros per day late. Activating this clause would be worth hundreds of millions of euros, but Laporta said they're careful about it:
“I hope it doesn't come to the demand for compensation, because it's true that certain penalties have been collected due to delays in certain phases of the project, but we can't blame directly. There have been delays, which are normal for such a project. ”
We are also understanding. What we want is to finish the work, not demand convictions. We want everything to be over soon. We have a company motivated as Limak. We're in the same boat. We are like family; we meet every two weeks. Here comes Limak's owner, CEO who's his daughter, with kids working for the company. ”
“They know they have accumulated penalties, but are sure that if targets are achieved, everything will be subject to negotiations. And I think there won't be any problems, because what we want is for the project to end well, with the quality and security we all want. ”
Barcelona will play La Ligas' first three games as guest, under the league agreement, to facilitate their return to “Camp Nou” The club has voiced confidence that this will not affect the involvement of 100m euros' income from the sale of VIP seats to the wage limit. /Periscope/
