PPR is a highly contagious viral disease that affects mainly sheep and goats. It spreads through direct contact with sick animals, while the source of infection is secretions and waste. Clinical signs include high temperatures, nose leaks, eye inflammation, lower appetites, diarrhea, and severe cases of death. This disease is not zoonotic, so it does not transmit to humans and poses no danger to public health.
Border authorities will strengthen controls at all border points and border generation areas with Albania, aimed at preventing the introduction of the disease on the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
The AUV, in co-operation with the relevant authorities, will closely follow the situation and undertake all necessary preventative measures. It will also regularly inform farmers and the public of further developments.
