Hamas has agreed to a proposal by US Special Envoy Steve Whitoff on a ceasefire in Gaza, paving the way for a possible end to the war. This has become known to Reuters by a Palestinian official near the group.
The new proposal, which envisions the release of ten hostages and 70 days of ceasefire, was accepted by Hamas through mediators.
“Proposal includes the release of ten surviving Israeli hostages held by Hamas in two groups in exchange for a 70-day ceasefire and a partial withdrawal from the Gaza Strip”, the source told Reuters, quoted A2 CNN.
The proposal also envisions the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners from Israel, including hundreds of those serving long prison sentences. There is still no immediate comment from Israel.
Earlier, the Israeli Army announced it has launched an unprecedented “military operation against the capabilities of armed groups that continue to shoot missiles towards Israel from the Khan Yunis area at the southern Gaza Strip. IDF ordered the immediate evacuation of residents from Al-Qara neighbourhoods, Bunny Suheila and Abbasan towards the Al-Maasi area, west.
According to the announcement, the area is considered dangerous and numerous warnings have been issued in the past. The Nasser and Al-Amal hospitals were excluded from the evacuation order. /Periscope/
