Born in Edinburgh, Stevenson was a talented left-wing defender who joined Liverpool in October 1962 after being transferred from Rangers at the request of legendary coach Bill Shankly.
During his career at “Anfield”, he was an essential part of a golden age for the club. He helped Liverpool win twice the title of England's champion in 1964 and 1966 and to ensure the club's first success at FA Cup in 1965.
In his season with Liverpool, he lost only nine league matches, an indication of his importance on the team. He was also part of the team that won the second medal at the Cup of Cup winners in 1966.
While in Liverpool, Stevenson scored 18 goals, including a decisive penalty in the 2-0 win against Chelsea in the FA Cup 1965 semifinal.
After leaving Liverpool, he pursued his career in several other clubs, including Stoke City, Tranmer Rovers, Vancouver Whitecaps, Limerick and Macclesfield Town, where he also closed his football career./Periscopi/
