This discussion not only allowed Alonsos to announce his departure before Sunday's match in Bundesliga against Borussia Dortmund, but also finalised key aspects of the agreement, including financial conditions.
A release clause in Alonso's contract is understood to be worth between 5m and 10m euros, and Los Blankos are prepared to activate it. A loan or transfer involving a new Real Madrid player joining Leverkusen has not also been excluded.
The Spanish is expected to sign a three-year contract with Real Madrid, while his salary will be nearly tenm euros in the season, while Leverkusen paid close to eight million.
Alonso will leave as the most successful coach in the history of Leverkusen after securing the club's first title in Bundesliga and reaching the final of the League of Europe.
He will not make this single transfer by assistants Sebastian Parrilla, Alberto Encinas and athletic coach Ishmael Camenforte-Lopez are expected to join him in Bernabeu.
