A group of civil society organisations has reacted about blocking the Kosovo Parliament's constitutionalisation. These organisations say the institutional crisis that followed the February 9th 2025 elections has exceeded any tolerable borders and is damaging not only the Parliament, but also the functioning of the country's entire democratic and institutional system.
The current “government, which has completed the mandate, is continuing to act without parliamentary supervision and control, the situation unacceptable to a democratic state”.
On the other hand, the dysfunctional Assembly is unable to pass important laws and strategic decisions that directly affect the lives of citizens and citizens, jeopardising institutional stability, economic development and civic trust in democratic representation. The current blockade is delaying and jeopardising the acceptance of funds from the EU Growth Plan, at the time when the measures imposed by the EU and the almost total suspension of US funds have significantly reduced financial support for Kosovo”.
In response it is said that current geopolitical developments require responsibility and quick actions by democratic states, followed by Periscope.
The Kosovo Parliament's non-comfusion is irresponsible and harmful. This stagnation risks losing confidence in our ability to build functional institutions and act as a serious state on the international scene”.
They call on parliamentary party leaders to assume the responsibility entrusted to them and act immediately to overcome the political crisis.
With dialogue and focus on developing the country and the well-being of citizens, reach an agreement that ends the blockade. Lack of will for co-operation and focus on common interest is unacceptable and deeply violates public confidence in democratic representation.
Disaction is not an option. Any further delay requires public accountability. Civil society remains ready to offer its contribution to overcoming this crisis and restoring democratic functionality in the country” is highlighted in response.
