Eleven people were killed when an air strike hit a house in Gaza City Thursday afternoon, increasing the number of victims after authorities previously reported 28 casualties, broadcast Periscope.
Israel ended its ceasefire with Hamasin the Palestinian group, declared terrorist organisations by the United States and the European Union, and resumed its air and land struggle over a month ago. Israel has also been blocking food supplies and other imports for the territory where 2 million Palestinians live since early March, in order to pressure Hamas to release the hostages.
Hamas has said he will release the remaining 59 hostages -- 24 of whom are believed to be alive -- only in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners, a long-term ceasefire and in exchange for Israel's full withdrawal. On the other hand, Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas - led militants attacked the south of Israel, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251 hostages. Most hostages were later released during ceasefires or other agreements.
Israel's offensive has caused the deaths of more than 51,000 Palestinians, mainly women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and killed fighters. Israel claims to have killed nearly 20,000 militants, but has offered no evidence of that claim. /REL
