It becomes known that Trump is considering the withdrawal of some 35,000 active personnel from Germany, in a move that would further exacerbate US-European relations.
Thus, the American president is increasingly strengthening his warning that Europe should engage more fully in its defence skills.
About 160,000 active personnel are stationed outside the U.S.A., a large quantity of which are in Germany, photographed Telegrafi.
Brian Hughes, a spokesman for US national security, said: “while no specific announcement is inevitable, the US Army is always considering re-distracting troops worldwide to best address the current threats to our interests”.
As the Telegraph reports, the president is considering redealing troops from Germany to Hungary, which has maintained a close relationship with Russia.
Trump is reportedly considering repositioning some American troops to Europe so that they can focus on NATO countries that have increased their defence spending to meet GDP targets.
It is part of the administration's plans to review NATO's commitment in a way that favours member states with higher defence spending.
Otherwise, Trump has repeatedly criticised NATO countries for failing to meet the current target of 2% expenditures, arguing that inequality imposes an unfair burden on the US.
On Thursday, he suggested that the US cannot protect NATO allies who fail to meet its spending targets as part of a major coalition shock.
When I came to NATO, when I first had my first meeting, I noticed people were not paying their bills at all and I said I should wait until my second meeting” said Trump.
And I did. And I mentioned that and I said, if you don't pay the bills, we won't. We will not protect you”, he added.
During his first term, Trump ordered the withdrawal of almost 12,000 troops from Germany, where the US had several major military targets, including Ramstein Air Base, the US European Command headquarters.
But the move was banned by Joe Biden amid widespread criticism from Congress.
