Pressure has increased on Syria's Islamist-led government to investigate after reports of the killing of hundreds of civilians in villages where most of the population were members of the Assad alavite minority sect.
“In a number of extremely disturbing cases, entire families including women, children and individuals hors de combats were killed, with cities and villages mainly targeted in particular,” said UN Human Rights Office spokesman Thamen Al-Khetan, using a French term for those unable to fight.
So far, the UN Human Rights Office has documented the killing of 111 civilians and expects the real number to be markedly higher, Al-Khetan said at a press conference in Geneva. /abcnews. al
