A Tyrons who takes command of an American battleship! Meet Commander Alban Dervisin, Albanian-American, who will take over command of USS Pearl Harbor in June 2025. Born in Tirana and originally from a military family, Alban and his parents emigrated to the United States 25 years ago to follow the American dream”, writes the American Embassy.
Hi, this is Alban Dervisi, born and raised in Tirana. “Cun Petroini” in high school. I was only 16 years old, I finished my second year in high school and we went to New York.
I'm so proud to take command this June of USS Pearl Harbor. I've been waiting for this moment for a lifetime and it's an honor because during our entire career we spend a lot of time reaching this top and I'm given a great chance and I can't wait to do my job.
Between my father, I broke up with my grandfather, so the army pulled me a little bit, even America, with the largest army in the world. M'u gave this opportunity and said why not join the U.S. Army.
Actually, he started as a simple sailor. Everything went down the ladder, one more opportunity, and a more opportunity moved things.
During my career I have been on seven different ships and have sailed every sea of the world, including the most critical operations of the war of Afghanistan, Iraq and other operations.
There's a certain accent there and it always attracts that question from someone: where do you come from? And I say it with great pride that I am Albanian”,- says Alban Dervisi.
