Erdogan, who has been president since 2014, represents the Justice and Development Party (AKP). Ozil has started his political journey with this party.
After the AKP's recent congress, new members of the party's central committee and decision-making administration were elected, and among them was Mesut Ozil.
Also, at the congress held in Ankara, Erdogan's re-election at the party's helm was confirmed. The AKP has been in power in Turkey since 2002.
