Kosovo Karateist Islam Selmani has been declared world vice champion in the category of up to 60kg, at the World Karate Championship under way in Cairo.
In the grand finale, Selmani faced Turkish Eray Samdan, one of the strongest names of world karate. After an extremely fierce duel, he closed the race as second in the world, securing silver.
A day earlier, Selmani had secured the qualifications in the final with an impressive performance in the semifinals, where she triumphed 9:1 to the Uzbekist Mekhriddin Turakhonov.
With this achievement, Islam Selmani becomes the first karateist from Kosovo to win a silver medal at the world championship, marking one of the biggest successes in the history of Kosovo sports./Periscopi/
