In the Swiss capital, Bern on January 12th, 2026, the best footballers will be declared for 2025 in Switzerland.

Switzerland's two stars, with Albanian descent, Granit Jaka and Gerdan Shaqiri, are nominated to win other awards, and most likely the leading candidates in the respective categories with Ominations published Friday.

Jaka is nominated to one of the main categories, the one for Switzerland's best football player.

In competition with Swiss national captain and Sunderland, there are Manuel Akanji and Dan Ndoye.

Jaka has won the best football award in Switzerland's national in the past three editions.

Last year's award won him after his successes with Bayer Leverkusen, the team he won Bundesliga and Germany's Cup.

Gerdan Shaqiri is the top contender in the Swiss Superleague's best football category.

This year Shaqiri had many successes with Basel, winning the Swiss Cup and title and making and assisting a large number of goals.

The awards-sharing ceremony is organised by the Swiss Football Federation and Switzerland's Football League.

The nominated have been chosen by the expert panel, including club trainers, sports directors and captains, as well as the selectors of Switzerland's nationals.

The final result will be determined by a third of the experts' jury votes, elected media representatives and fans.
