This development has brought back to the spotlight the multibillion-dollar sports betting industry in the United States, which has expanded significantly since its legalization in 2018.
According to the indictment, Rosier and other people are accused of using confidential information to win bets at NBA matches. His lawyer stated that client “is not dependent on bets” and will fight to prove innocence”.
A special indictment includes the coach of Portland Trail Blazers, Chancey Billups, who is accused of manipulating high-value cards. He has flatly denied the accusations, citing himself as the integrity keeper”.
After the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 2018, which lifted the federal ban on sports betting, this market has expanded to 38 countries and Washington, D.C., with a $10 billion profit in the first nine months of this year, according to reports by American Gaming Association.

The ban directly hit the sponsor of the national cricket team, Dream11, one of the largest platforms of “fantasy sports” in the country.
