US President Donald Trump said he was investigating ground military attacks on drug cartels in Venezuela, confirming the allegations of the New York Times for secret CIA operations in the country.
“E we have the sea under control, we're thinking of Earth”, Trump said, stressing that Venezuela is smuggling drugs into the US.
Asked if he had planned to kill President Nicolas Maduro, Trump replied that “would not be serious to respond to this”.
Maduro reacted sharply, accusing the US and CIA of an attempted coup and saying Latin America refuses military interventions and regime change.
According to data from Caracas, at least 27 people were killed during US attacks on ships off Venezuela's coast.
Washington claims the targets were cartel ships, but evidence has not been presented publicly.
