Among those arrested are Portland coach Trail Blazers, Chancey Billups, and Miami Heat player Terry Rosier, both reportedly were arrested after their teams' matches Wednesday.
The arrests are part of a comprehensive investigation into the games of illegal fate that resulted in two indictments, the FBI said, one for players suspected of simulated injuries to influence betting prospects and another involving an illegal poker network linked to organised crime.
Federal prosecutors unearthed two separate charges Thursday for the Miami Heat player Terry Rosier, and Portland coach Trail Blazers, Chaucy Billups.
Rosier, 31, is among six persons arrested for alleged irregularities in the bets. Among them are NBA players charged with counterfeiting injuries to influence lucky playgrounds.
Billups, a character Hall player who has trained Portland Trail Blazers since 2021, is one of the 31 people charged in a special case of the illegal poker game involving retired players and mafia.
This case, which prosecutors said included four of the five leading criminal families in New York City, uncovered an alleged scheme to lure victims into playing poker games manipulated along with high profile sports stars before stealing millions of dollars.
They did this by using technology, including special contact lens and glasses that could read the default cards and an X - ray sign, according to authorities.
The NBA said in a statement that Rosier and Billups were immediately suspended while considering federal charges.
We take these charges with the greatest seriousness and integrity of our game remains our top priority”, the NBA said.
Rosier's lawyer denied the charges for CBS News, saying: “Terry is not a gambler, but he is not afraid of a war and is eager to win this fight”.
