At a summit in Egypt, focused on achieving a broader peace in the Middle East and supporting a ceasefire in Gaza, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan found a new goal for his fight against tobacco.
In the margins of the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheik, the Turkish president urged Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melon to quit smoking.
He was heard saying to Melon: You look great. But I have to make you quit smoking”, on images transmitted by the news agency ♫hlas.
French President Emmanuel Macron, standing nearby, laughed and rejected Erdogan's hopes, saying: “is impossible!”
Melon responded with a warning that quitting tobacco could make it less social, adding: “E know, you know... I don't want to kill anybody”.
In a recent book based on interviews, Melon admitted that smoking helped him to associate with other global leaders, including the Sunnisan president, Kais Sayed.
