Local elections in northern Macedonia: Who, where did he win?

The party will have mayors in 30 out of a total of 80 municipalities, and expects that in the second round it will win in about 20 more, including the city of Skopje, where its candidate, Orce Djordjeevski, is at great advantage.

“We promised victory, we have victory”, VMRO-DPMNE prime minister and leader Hristian Mickoski declared.

Opposition LSDM also suffered a defeat following last year's parliamentary and presidential elections.

However, the party estimated the result is not bad, as this time it has won more votes in several municipalities and stressed that there has been a multiple “breach” during the voting process.

The LSDM will have mayors in Kriva Palanca, Bogdanc and Krivogastein, while waiting to move to the second round in about 20 other municipalities.

“This is evidence of consolidation within the party that has begun and we will continue,” said LSDM leader Venko Filipce, who said he has no intention of resigning after these election results.

V LEN won in Ciir and Tetovo, while DUI in Gostivar

In Albanian political bloc, V candidate LEN, Izet Mejedi, won convincingly in the key municipality '%Cair, while Bilal Kasami in Tetovo. In the first round, the coalition won in four more municipalities.

For Mexhit, this will be his fourth term as mayor, and he will have to leave the current minister post after defeating former DUI minister Bujar Osmani, who gave him the victory.

The DUI-led National Alliance for Integration (AKI) won the mayoral elections in Gostivar, Likova, Chashka and Plasnica since the first round, Arben Ademi, vice-chairman announced.

He said that, national level, “AKI is the absolute winner with over 20,000 votes, and with votes still being processed, that difference could be even bigger. ”

Election day passed smoothly and without major violations. Citizens' expectations are similar. A better life in more functional municipalities.

The State Election Commission announced that by 6:30 p.m., voter turnout was 46.48 percent, what is close to the first round of previous elections when it reached 51.44 percent.

According to the election list, the voting rights had 1,832,415 citizens.

For 81 seats of mayors competed 309 candidates, while seats in municipal councils competed on 10,490 candidates from the total of 576 lists.

One feature of these elections is that men dominate in the mayoral race of 277 candidates or 89.64%, while women are only 32, representing 10.36% of the total.

The overall budget the state allocated for organising these local elections is 9m of 760 thousand euros, out of which two-thirds are intended media media and paid political advertising.

The second election run is scheduled for 2 November/Radio Free Europe.
