Until 26 October, it is the deadline when the mandate for forming the new government emerged from the 9 February elections -- Vetevendosje Movement Chairman Albin Kurti -- must present his cabinet and vote in the Assembly.
If this is not achieved, then the country could go to new elections for the central level for the second time within a year.
CEC spokesman Valmir Elez has said of Kosova Prees, that this institution is currently focused on closing local elections and organising the second round of mayors' elections.
According to him, the CEC is not involved in political debate among political subjects, but remains committed to meeting constitutional obligations.
“Exactly, the Central Election Commission is committed to completing the process of local elections, including announcing final results and preparations for the second round of elections for mayors of municipalities, in those in which no candidate manages to win 50% +1 votes in the total number of valid votes. The CEC does not comment political statements or warnings from political leaders. However, as always, the Central Election Commission remains committed to meeting its constitutional and legal obligations, at any moment when an election process is officially announced”, Elesi said.
Despite the readiness, the CEC acknowledges that going to new elections at the central level would pose a challenge to the staff of this institution.
The organisation of a new election process within a short period certainly poses a challenge for the CEC and its staff, especially for the fact that we are still in the active phase of local election management. But the CEC, as always, will act in line with its legal mandate and will take all necessary actions if it is decided to hold new elections”, Elesi said.
Otherwise, diaspora votes and votes are currently being counted for several municipal assemblies. While the runoff for dozens of municipalities will be held on November 9th.
