Daniel Naroditsky was one of America's best-known chess figures and a former world champion for youth.
Only 14 years old, he had written and published a book on the game, and in later years, he had educated followers through live broadcasts on Twitch and YouTube.
Naroditsky served as the principal coach at the Sah Charlotte Centre in North Carolina, which announced his death.
In a statement, it said: “Daniel was a talented chess player, commentator and educator, and a precious member of the chess community, admired and respected by fans and players worldwide”
The cause of Naroditsky's death has not yet been revealed.
