According to Muharrem, there are almost 300 thousand people who have fled Kosovo villages.
According to him, this number may even be greater if the natural growth of the population is integrated.
“From the 2011 census to 2024 we have -288,300 less people who no longer live in rural areas. We had 1,078,293 people in rural areas during the 2011 census, while in 2024 only 789,939<x1 were registered.
This, according to Muharrem, tells of an escape from the village of nearly 300,000 people for 13 years (288,300 people).
This account doesn't even take into account the natural growth of the population. From 2011 to 2024 Kosovo has had a natural increase of around 250,000 people. Also, natural growth is more than halved by about 27,000 per year (2011) to about 12,000 on average in 2023/2024”.
Muharrem estimates that this number may be even greater if births are considered.
If natural growth is integrated into accounts, evacuations from rural areas or villages could be around 400,000 people from 2011 to 2024. Some have moved to city or urban areas, but the qualitative majority have emigrated abroad”.
