The 28-year-old, who lost only one season for the club and national, is the first Spanish player to win this award since 1960, and the first Premier League player to win since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008.
Rodri, who helped Spain win the 2024 European Championship in July, was declared the winner of the Gala award held in Paris the evening.
He also won Premier League, U Supercup EFA and the World Club Cup with Manchester City.
Rodri, the first player in the history of the club to win “Golden Cup”, grabbed the prize before Real Madrid and Brazil striker Winnicius Jr.
Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham ranked third highest place for an English player since Frank Lambard's second place in 2005.
The Spanish team (Real Madrid) also won the award as club of the year, while their coach, Carlo Anceplotti, was declared the best coach of the year.
However, no one from the club was present to receive the awards.
“Los Blanccos” decided to boycott this ceremony after realizing that their player, Winniitus Junior, would not win the “Golden Cup”.
And Rodri's triumph before Winnicius Junior sparked great controversy and caused public debate on whether the Brazilian attacker was wronged.
Many players and former Real Madrid players and not only expressed their opinion that the real winner would have been the conductor's star.
Part of the narrow list for the “Golden Cup” was Granit Jaka, the first football player of Albanian descent to be nominated for the biggest individual prize for a player.
Granit Jaka ranked 16th best in the world, but did not participate in the ceremony.
Lamine Yamal was chosen as the best young footballer, while Emiliano Martinez won the best goalkeeper award.
In the girls' competition, Barcelona's football player Natana Bonmati won the Golden Ball, which had an unforgetted season with the Catalonians.
