“setting hands”: naive to expect implementation of Ohrid Agreement before Kosovo elections

Emisari for the Western Balkans Miroslav Lajcak, who on behalf of the EU brokers Kosovo negotiations Serbia, has been convinced that there will be progress in implementing the Ohrid Agreement because of elections in Kosovo. Slovak has said this openly during a debate at the GLOBSEC 2024 in Prague, where it has been discussed [...]
We've been able to do the best thing that's the deal on the normalisation route that was adopted last year in Ohrid but that's never been implemented, but even worse it hasn't even begun to implement. President Macron said two days ago in Belgrade that the road has been paved and the road is called the Ohrid Agreement, but what is missing is political will and the two societies are also nearly” emphasis Lajcak.
On the other hand, he has cited the February 9th parliamentary elections that will be held in Kosovo.
” We have parliamentary elections in Kosovo in February, so it is naive to believe we can expect progress before elections. But we must make sure that we see substantial progress under way immediately after the” elections, he said.
Speaking of the Western Balkan countries' EU membership, Lajcak has said Montenegro could join the bloc in 2028. “No one can do it earlier, because only Montenegro and Serbia are in an advanced phase of membership negotiations, but Montenegro has it all in its hands, while Serbia has the solution to the problem with Kosovo prior to this”, he said.
Slovak will hold the mediator's post until 31 January 2025, to take the position of EU Ambassador to Switzerland. With dialogue, the new EU Chief Diplomat is expected to be taken into account by Estonian Kaya Kallas, who is not known if she will appoint a new minister for dialogue.
