Romania sent its fighter F-16 planes to monitor airspace, as well as announced its allies to NATO, the ministry said.
Authorities also sent warning messages to residents in two eastern regions.
Romanian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Since Russia began its full invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Romania has found fragments of Russian fears on its territory on several occasions and later in July of this year.
Romania's Defence Ministry strongly condemned the Russian attacks in Ukraine, naming them unreasonable “and in sharp opposition to international law norms”.
Several people have been killed and injured as a result of Russian attacks on various parts of Ukraine during the night, Ukrainian officials reported on Sunday.
