Birmingham's officer, Truman Fitzgerald, said that the shooting that caused up to 21 injured occurred shortly after 11 p.m., local AL media reported. COM.
Fitzgerald said there were “40 victims shot with weapons” and at least four had “plages that risked their lives”, according to the AL. COM.
Birmingham's Fire and Rescue Service declared three dead victims at the scene, and a fourth person was declared dead at the Alabama University Hospital in Birmingham.
Police said the victims found dead at the scene included two men and one woman, according to WBMA-TV reports.
Other victims were transported to hospitals by private means, police told WBMA.
Birmingham police did not answer questions sent by the Associated Press news agency demanding further information.
The Five Points South area of Birmingham has many places of entertainment, restaurants and bars and is often crowded on Saturday nights.
Police said there were no immediate arrests.
