Shaqiri's magnificent reception at Basel, thousands of fans come out to welcome him

How big Gerdan Shaqiri is, it was evident Monday evening, when the former Swiss star played 125 matches three days after formalising the transfer was welcomed by thousands of Basel fans around the club stadium.  

He waved to fans as a king from the FCB office balcony.  

It's always good to be home. There's always been only one option for me, FC Basel!”, he said, but after every word of Shaqiri fans continued to cheer.  

He thanked management and FCB President David Degen, while adding that the club will return where it belongs.  

You know where the FCB belongs, we'll do everything we can to bring the title to this city.  

Shaqiri was also confused because he declared: “I am not twenty years old, but the left leg is still there”. 

It's still not known if Coach Fabio Celestein will put him in the game next Sunday against the UN.  

“Tomorrow will participate in the first training session. The last match was against Scotland or the short fight against England. I'm not at 100 percent yet. But I feel good. I hope to help the team as soon as possible”, Shaqiri said. 

Then Shaq again greeted the fans, at least temporarily, while taking some photos with some of them.  

The club has scheduled an autograph session, while its 10th-to-do fanella is out to be the best sold in recent days. /Telegraph/
