Within a week Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veselini, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi appear at the courtroom four times -- now for more than a year.
Former KLA leaders are staying in custody at The Hague for nearly four years, on war crimes charges.
But, all of this process and these serious charges they are facing well and in good emotional condition, show by the former president's defence team.
Mr. Thaci of all those detained in The Hague is largely good and stable because they have been prepared for such challenges, while in terms of humanity it is a huge loss not only for close family members but for the entire Kosovar society, so I'm saying the sooner this process ends is better, and in favour of justice”, Bekim Colak said, Part of Hashim Thaci's team.
Colak, who is part of former President Thaci's defence team, hopes this process will be completed in an opitmal term and not dragging on as it has happened so far.
“We are talking about a process that has been associated with many unknowns for a very complex process, and maratonic if the panel of judges adheres to the terms it has determined for itself, which are valid for both the prosecution and protection, we expect this process to be introduced with a dynamic phase, and the prosecution should end with failures by April of next year”, Colak has indicated.
The specialised rooms in The Hague, after summer break, will begin in sessions next week, until, according to attorney Artan Qerkeyni, an important decision is expected to be made in the process in the following months.
“At the autumn session, of court hearings in Thaci and others, it is expected that the Court will take a very important decision of the procedural spectrum, in the month of October a court ruling involving the number of witnesses, and we hope that it will decide to reduce the number of prosecution witnesses, and that if it decides something in turn will influence the procedure and the prosecution's case to speed up earlier, and continue on protecting”, Arter Qetar Keennitari, actiz, said.
The trial process against former KLA leaders has started in April 2023, until they are in custody since 2020. Over 100 witnesses have been heard for over a year.
