It was said that despite the fact that a considerable number of Convention commitments have been fulfilled through the adoption of laws, the targeted results have not been achieved, while Kosovo still remains without an anti-corruption strategy.
I achieved Rezniqi, senior researcher at the Kosovo Institute for Justice (IKD), said that not being a party state in the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), Kosovo does not participate in the regular process of reviewing the implementation of this convention, says Eo.
The published “Report found that despite the fact that a significant number of obligations by the United Nations Convention against Corruption have been fulfilled through the adoption of laws, the target results have not been achieved. Moreover, even in legislative terms, in recent years there is a tendency for regress”, Rezniqi said.
“, however, although it is not a party state so far, Kosovo has shown its firm commitment to implementing the provisions of this Convention. Kosovo, in line with contractual obligations with the European Union through the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, has been actively pursuing anti-corruption policies by integrating relevant provisions into its domestic legislation and policies. Various laws and regulations have been adopted to strengthen the institutional framework, boost transparency and prosecute acts of corruption. Kosovo's dedication to implementing the United Nations Convention Against Corruption is considered even with no claim to avoid implementing the provisions of this 911 convention, Rezniqi said.
Betim Musliu, IKD deputy director, said Kosovo still does not have a strategy for fighting corruption, while the current draft strategy conflicts with the Kosovo Constitution.
Musliu has said this draft strategy does not adequately share some competencies for the supervision of the Prosecutorial Council, nor for the media.
