Captain Michael Gies, commander of the Hamburg State Command of the German Armed Forces, during an interview published in Die Welt during August 11th, has declared that Germany must prepare for a large-scale military conflict in five years.
“In Germany, we are still miles away from the perception of an external threat today, quite different from people in Baltic states or Poland, for example”, Gis told Die Welt.
But my inner hour as a soldier is working, and it tells me that after five years we will have to be flexible as a society to confront a military external threat”, Giss added, broadcasting Telegrafi.
As reported Kiev IndependentBerlin began drafting the <x0 plan of Operation Germany”, a national military readiness strategy in partnership with NATO in March 2023 in response to Russia's invasion.
Giss said the plan requires Germany to prepare for “a conventional attack by Russia within five years”.
According to Giss, Russia is already involved in a hybrid fight against NATO, after conducting cyber attacks, sabotages and de-information campaigns “for several years”.
A growing list of countries has joined Germany in renewed military vigilance, warning that the Alliance must be better prepared for a possible fight with Russia.
