The future of Southgate as England coach remains in doubt after the Three Lions ended their season at Euro-2024 with a disappointing 2-1 loss against Spain.
Ahead of the finals in Berlin, Southgate promised to make a quick decision for his future after the Euro-2024 final.
But on Sunday evening, after losing the final, the 53-year-old former Midlesbrough coach said that now “is not the time to make such a decision.
He added: I need to talk to the right people and give myself some time. To reach another final... it was a privilege to have the opportunity. But resisting short is difficult right now”.
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle coach Eddie Howe will be high on the FA's narrow list if Southgate decides to leave his post.
Other key candidates to replace the Southgate include Graham Potter, Thomas Tuchel, Maurizio Pochetino and England coach U21, Lee Carsley.
The above media also mentions Frank Lambard and Steven Gerard as candidates who could access the list, though they would be considered external compared to others mentioned above.
The chief executive of the British federation, Mark Bullingham, and technical director John McDermott will lead the process to appoint Southgate's replacement if the scenario occurs. /Telegraph/
