The president of the United States, Joe Biden, said his decision to withdraw from the re-election race was “the right thing to do”.
Biden made comments during a telephone conversation with Democratic Party election campaign assistants.
These were the first of him since he withdrew from the race on July 21st.
He gave support to his deputy, Kamala Harris, who must now provide the party's nomination as a candidate for president.
I know the news [for my withdrawal] was surprising and difficult to hear, but it was the right thing to do”, Biden told campaign representatives.
He said the team worked “with the soul” to help it remain in office even for a second mandate, but added that “would not go anywhere” and that it would remain “fully engaged” in the campaign.
“I hope you give Camille a piece of your heart and soul, which you gave me”, Biden told campaign representatives.
We still have to save this democracy. Trump still poses danger to this nation”, Biden said, referring to Republican candidate for president Donald Trump.
The US presidential election will be held on November 5th.
Beden, 81, withdrew after growing concerns about his age and health. /rel
