US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Jim O'Brien has commented on yesterday's meetings in Brussels under the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. He said that failure to implement agreements that have been signed in the past is a lost possibility on both sides.
He underlined that the parties must engage to address their problems within the framework of the dialogue enabled by the European Union.
“Failure to implement past agreements is truly a lost opportunity for both sides”, O'Brien said.
Meanwhile, high-level meetings under Kosovo-Serbia dialogue have been held in Brussels yesterday.
EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell has met separately with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and with Serbian President Alexander Vuciq.
And there was no joint meeting.
EU High Representative Josep Borelli at the end of meetings with Prime Minister Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq has said the trilate meeting has been held because of Kurti.
The “Talks were as difficult as they have always been and there was finally no trilate meeting. Kosovo wasn't ready for this. There was a will for this trilate meeting. Serbia was ready to do it. But it takes two to dance tango” he said.
So Borell said that currently “the agreement remains non-implicable”.
It's important that we move forward, but the agreement remains unappreciable more than a year after it was reached. The two sides are responsible for failing to fulfill their promises. Non-impulation is loss to both sides”, he said.
On the other hand, Kurti said that from the last meeting that had trilaterals, many things have changed, ranging from the terrorist attack on Banjska to the letter for the basic agreement of former Serbian Prime Minister Anna Brnabyq.
Kurt mentioned the three guarantees he asked for at this meeting.
The last <x0) time we had a meeting was on September 14th, a day before the terrorist attack. A lot has happened since then, and Banjska has also happened the letter of withdrawal of the basic agreement. As Borrell himself said, I have requested assurances of trust and goodwill which enable the implementation of the agreement, and these come through the three guarantees that I have highlighted, the first is the signing of the basic agreement, the second is the withdrawal of Brnaby's letter because it says that Kosovo's independence is not accepted, the UN seat and territorial integrity, and the third guarantee is the surrender of the Kosovo authorities, Kurti said.
Serbia's president, Alexander Vuciq, commented on these developments yesterday.
He told the media in Brussels that during the course of high-level dialogue, he has not met with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, despite such a meeting being warned by the European Union.
'Curt never wanted to see me. I've been back at the meeting three times, I've been texting him, so I responded. That person doesn't want to see me. They said he was not ready for a meeting with me”, Vuciq said after the end of the round of dialogue. /Gazza Express/
