Lajcak's call to Pristina and Belgrade, acceleration of implementation of Agreement for normal relations

Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq said Wednesday after a meeting in Belgrade with the European Union's envoy for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, that the return to dialogue and normalisation of relations between the two neighbouring countries exists through implementation of the Brussels Agreement, citing the founding of the Association of Serb majority municipalities. Lajcak, on the [...]
Lajcak, on the other hand, said he had open “talks with the Serbian leader for the current state of dialogue and that “we agreed on the next steps for the coming period”.
Vuciq wrote in the Instagram that the EU, as a mediator in the dialogue, will have “a serious and responsible partner in Serbia, and for our people in Kosovo, we are supporters of the sumpromis”.
He added that he talked with Lajcak even “about the almost impossible conditions for life of the Serbian population, caused by continued pressure and arbitration of authorities in Pristina”.
Lajcak was visiting Belgrade a day after staying in Pristina, where he met with Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi. With Kurt, who leads the dialogue on the political level, he did not meet because of, as it was said, his trip abroad.
During the visit to Kosovo, Lajcak called on the two countries to take steps to implement the Agreement for normalisation of relations.
Kurti and Vuciq talked about implementing the Ohrid Agreement for the last time on September 14, 2023, but without any progress, due to conflicting positions.
Lajcak has also said EU punitive measures towards Kosovo should be removed and that the bridge over the Iber River should be opened in a way that does not escalate the situation.
He has made these statements after a meeting he has held with Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi.
We have an agreement, we need to accelerate its implementation. This was the first topic we discussed with Bisimi, and the second point for the EU Economic Growth Plan”.
The EU plan envisions the division of a six billion-euro fund for Western Balkan countries for the period 2024-2027, to accelerate the European integration of this region.
Lajcak has said that to gain access to these funds, Kosovo and Serbia have preconditions of constructive engagement in the Brussels dialogue, and as the person responsible for making the progress in the dialogue, he has said he has seen a meeting with officials in Kosovo and Serbia needed for the steps the parties should take.
