In Kosovo, the trend of population decline is continuing.
According to experts, the factors that have influenced this trend are migration and the decline of nighthood. They call on state institutions to draft policies to reduce migration.
Statistics Agency officials have recently said they are aware that there is a reduction in the population, although the official number from the last census has not yet been made public.
Over 1.7 million was the number of residents in Kosovo in 2011, when the census was made. From then until this year, when the last census was made, according to data, has continued to decline in population numbers.
This year, from April 5th to May 24th, the population registration process took place, while the Statistics Agency at recent conferences has announced that initial data is expected to be released in July, while the final ones at the end of this year. Experts say the decline in the population population has affected migration and the decline in nightiness.
Demography Sami Behrami told Kosovo Radio that it is disturbing and that now is the last time for institutions to deal seriously with the migration problem.
Even Besim Gallopen of the Association of Kosovo Sociologists told Radio Kosovo that the main factors are population movements and low birth rates. He stressed that the consequences may be great in all areas.
Gallopen stressed that the trend of population decline has been observed in all countries of the region and Europe. On the other hand, he stressed that policy-making institutions in Kosovo should have additional attention so that they can have a reform organisation of the situation on the ground, taking steps in building policies, so that this trend of migration will be reduced.
In annual reports of the Statistics Agency, tens of thousands of people leave Kosovo each year to foreign countries. While six months ago, the AKS announced that during 2022 alone, over 41,000 people have released Kosovo.
