The European Union's top foreign policy representative, Josep Borrell, is still in finalisation of the report on the removal of punitive measures against Kosovo.
In the EU, the report will soon be handed over to member states, but add that there is no date when this will be done exactly. Despite that, Kosovo Government states that the report will be handed over to the Council of Ministers next week and that the recommendation is expected to be positive. Political analysts also expect the removal of punitive measures.
European Union spokesman Peter Stano in a response to Kosovo Preress says the report on the measures to Kosovo has not yet surrendered, and that there is a date when that will happen. However, it claims the report will soon be submitted to member states. The report has not yet been submitted and we have never announced a date when exactly this will be done. In its conclusions of December 12th 2023, the Council of General Affairs recalled that the EU is ready to lift measures on Kosovo in the event of further progress in meeting EU requirements expressed in the June 3rd 2023 declaration. The Council (EU Member States) invited High Representative Borrell to submit a report on Kosovo meeting EU requirements. The report is still on finalisation and will soon be presented to the Member States at Council”, said in their response to Kosovo Preress.
Positive estimates for the removal of punitive measures await political analyst Dorajet Imer.
He declares for Kosovo Press that the European Union should lift punitive measures against Kosovo as soon as possible. The European Union must urgently address the immediate removal of measures it has imposed on Kosovo. Because of the establishment of institutions and new election holders in the north. Any further delay in these measures would imply an unprecedented punishment for Kosovo, which is not proportional to what Europeans can proceed without م”, he says.
On the other hand, the executive is optimistic that the removal of punitive measures against Kosovo is recommended in Borrell's report.
Days ago, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integrations and Dialogue Besnik Bislimi said there is information that the contents of Borrell's report will be positive.
The damage caused to Kosovo by punitive measures, according to reports, is estimated to be around 300m euros in punitive measures the EU imposed on Kosovo in June last year following increasing tensions in the country's north.
