HIV damage the affected person's immune system, leaving him exposed to severe infections.

The virus can be transmitted through the exchange of various body fluids from infected individuals.

Therapy “PrEP” (the pre-exploration procedure) is the medicine used in people who are negative HIV to reduce the risk of taking the virus.

According to Mehmet, pill therapy will first be given to the LGBTI+, but also to others who have a positive partner with HIV, or they need it.

Securing this therapy has been a joint project of Kosovo institutions, the Global Fund (Global Fund) and the Centre for Development of Social Groups from Pristina, Mehmeti said.

International financial organisation, Global Fund, focused on prevention as well as treatment of HIV- AIDS, has provided them for two years. After this period, the Kosovo Health Ministry will take over their security, he explained.

The 30-packed drug therapy will be obtained at the Infectious Clinic's pharmacy after consulting the doctor.

Agron Nuhiu, executive director of the Centre for Development of Social Groups, told Radio Free Europe that it has been working on this project since 2016.

Kosovo, according to Nuhiu, is the second country in the region to offer this therapy for free, following northern Macedonia.

In 2022 in Kosovo, 17 new cases of HIV/ AIDS figures that submitted double cases compared with 2021 when eight were registered.
