In a written response to RTV21, the EULEX Information Office said it is not included even in the latest case of Tefik Mustaf's arrest. He was arrested by Serbian authorities on June 1st at the border crossing between Kosovo and Serbia in Merdare on charges that he is involved, reportedly, in war crimes as a former KLA member.
Serbian authorities established the 1 month detention measure for Tefik Mustafi, while Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Daciq tied his name to, as he said, the testimony of several witnesses who accused him of allegedly kidnapping three police officials during 1999.
Mustafa's arrest was condemned by Kosovo's MPJD, which appealed to the QUINT member states ( The US, Great Britain, Italy, France and Germany) for taking immediate steps to release him. MPJ also demanded responsibility from the Serbian state for actions, as it called arbitrary.
But, the EU's mission to rule of Law, E ULEX, said Kosovo authorities have not contacted them to request assistance, especially in the latest case of Tefik Mustaf's arrest.
The US State Department said in a statement to Radio Europe and Freedom that it is aware of the arrest of Kosovo citizens Tefiq Mustafa, days ago.
But The UN urged Serbia to develop transparent process in the case of Mustafa” as with any other arrest, in line with rule of law”.
Four Kosovo Albanians are currently in custody in Serbia on charges of committing war crimes. In addition to Mustafa, who was arrested days earlier, on April 17th Serbian authorities arrested another Kosovar, Sadik Durak, with the same aquaza as in the Mustafa case, and in January, Hasan Dakay was arrested by the former KLA member. In January 2020, Serbian authorities arrested Nezir Mehmetaj and since then held in custody.
