The UN Security Council has just adopted our resolution calling on Hamas to accept the agreement to establish a ceasefire with the release of hostages,” wrote Biden on X.
“Hamas says he wants a truce. This agreement is an opportunity to prove that they want this”, he added.
Hamas issued a statement welcoming the UN resolution shortly after it passed, saying he is ready to co-operate with mediators for implementing the principles of the plan.
The deal, described by Biden in late May, was to take place in three phases.
The first phase of the deal would be a six-week ceasefire -- the second, the return of remaining hostages from Gaza and the third and last -- a reconstruction plan for Gaza.
It passed by 14 votes, and only Russia abstained from voting, writes Sky News.
